Hello Callista!

Kees and Carel

After Hopping Fox, Brewery Kees again comes up with a collaboration with Hollands Hophuis: Hello my name is Callista, a Double IPA with Callista in the leading role.

With this slightly hazy DIPA of 8.2%, Kees goes a step beyond. No SMaSH (Single Malt and Single Hop) this time, but a Single Hop IPA, brewed with Callista only.

Fruity hops
At Hollands Hophuis, we know all too well that wonderful varieties of hops come from European soil. Callista is a typical example of a hop that surprises brewers and beer lovers with its enormous fruity aroma. We have put this German variety in the Stone Fruit aroma profile, in the case of Callista because of its apricot and peach aromas. There are also aromas of grapefruit, gooseberry and red currant.

Hopfenforschungszentrum Hüll
Callista was developed by the Centre for Hop Research in Hüll, Germany, and has been available since around 2016. This variety was developed mainly because of those fruity aromas and is ideal as a late hop or dry hop. The alpha acid content is not that high, in this case 3.9%. Kees ended up with an IBU of 18 with this beer, which fits perfectly into the trend of hazy beers with gentle bitterness.

New England DIPA with European Hop
Kees proves with Hello my name is Callista that a New England-style IPA can be brewed more than perfectly with a European hop variety. The fruity aromas are very prominent and are nicely supported by the sweet malty backbone. The Verdant yeast maintains this sweet body and further accentuates Callista's fruity aroma. A very satisfying beer.

We are proud of another successful collaboration with Brewery Kees, which will certainly be continued. The plans for a next hoppy project are already there, keep an eye on our channels and those of Kees!
